The Benefits of the Six Month Smiles Procedure
A lack of confidence in your smile can affect your overall self-confidence, yet traditional metal braces can be off-putting to many people as a corrective treatment option.
Six Month Smiles is an orthodontic treatment which helps improve the appearance of your visible front teeth.
With Six Month Smiles you can treat minor to moderate teeth issues such as crowding, large gaps, overbites and open bites without the hassle and timespan associated with metal braces.
Comfortable to wear, they apply low forces to move the teeth in to their correct position and give you a smile to be confident in.
How Does Six Month Smiles Work?
Six Month Smiles is designed to correct the front teeth only, those which are instantly visible when you smile. The procedure uses clear brackets which are bonded to your teeth, plus tooth-coloured wires fitted and then adjusted by your dentist. Prior to fitting, an impression will be taken of your teeth in order for a model to be made from which your dentist can work out the movement required to correct the teeth. The brackets and wires will then be custom-made to fit your teeth.
The Difference to Traditional Metal Braces
Although the way Six Month Smiles corrects the teeth is similar to traditional metal braces, the time taken to achieve the desired result is much less. Six Month Smiles is aimed at the visible front teeth and can even only require four months for some patients. Correcting misaligned teeth with traditional braces can take between 18 to 24 months, and the metal wires can be uncomfortable to wear. The clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires of Six Month Smiles means they are hardly visible when worn, making you less self-conscious of them when in public situations.
During and After Treatment
During the duration of the Six Month Smile treatment process, you would need to visit your dentist every 4 to 5 weeks for them to adjust the wires gently so they continue to move your teeth in to position. Once the brackets and wires are removed you will still need to wear a retainer, as you would with metal braces, to ensure the teeth do not move back.
Six Month Smiles is a cosmetic treatment plan for people who want straighter teeth in a shorter space of time, but it may not be a recommended course for those with more complex bite and misalignment issues.
